FEATURING A $42 3-COURSE PRIX-FIXE FOR NYC RESTAURANT WEEK
Alto saxophonist Antonio Hart leads a soulful quintet in a celebration of the music and legacy of the great Cannonball Adderley. Says Hart, “The music of Cannonball…has had a great influence on me…Cannonball was always open to trying different things, not restricting himself to the traditional rhythms and progressions.” Born in Baltimore, Hart studied at Berklee before joining a host of promising young musicians to descend on New York in the early 1990s often referred to as “The Young Lions.” Here, he joined forces with friend and classmate Roy Hargrove with whom he gained a lot of early recognition. He released a number of important albums and has held the alto chair in bands led by Dave Holland, Dizzy Gillespie, and Jimmy Heath. Equal parts soul and swing, Adderley’s music is some of the most popular in jazz canon and Hart is one of the obvious heirs to his straight-forward art.
