Black Art Jazz Collective, a collaborative sextet started in 2012 by Jeremy Pelt, Wayne Escoffery and Johnathan Blake, is making its Smoke debut. Their mission is to celebrate the significance of African Americans cultural and political icons, as well as preserving the historical significance of African Americans in Jazz.  And, in just a short time, they have established themselves as one of the most important new groups in jazz. With the rest of the band—including James Burton III, Vicente Archer, Darrell Green (Friday only), and Xavier Davis—they are described by TimeOut as “comprised of Jazz’s finest rising stars.”  Don’t miss this important new ensemble.
