Saxophonist Donald Harrison, an artistic trailblazer as well as a champion of tradition, leads an exciting quartet in the music he calls “Nouveau Swing.” It’s a style he developed that merges R&B, hip-hop, soul and rock with jazz. Over a three-decade-plus career, Harrison has performed or recorded with some of the most influential artists of the 21st century from jazz and R&B to funk and classical beyond. Some of these artists include Art Blakey, Roy Haynes, McCoy Tyner, Miles Davis, Lena Horne, Eddie Palmieri, Jennifer Holiday, Dr. John, McCoy Tyner, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Notorious B.I.G. and The Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Since 1999, Harrison has been the Big Chief of The Congo Square Nation Afro-New Orleans cultural group and coined the term Afro-New Orleans to describe his culture. He is committed to keeping traditional to modern jazz music alive for the next generation.
